We are happy to announce that we have training classes scheduled for Winter/Spring of 2012.  (Is it just me or does it seem odd to see 2012 already?)  We will be hosting 2 Chiller classes in Florida: one in Clearwater and one in Orlando.  In Atlanta we will once again be offering Chiller, Pneumatics and VAV classes.

January 17 & 18 – Chiller, Orlando

January 19 & 20 – Chiller, Clearwater

February 1 & 2 – Chiller, Atlanta

April 17 & 18 – Pneumatics, Atlanta

April 19 & 20 – VAV, Atlanta

The Chiller class focuses on basic operations, maintenance and troubleshooting of chilled water systems. Topics will include basic refrigeration cycle of water chillers; design and overall operation of chilled water systems; refrigerant types, handling and record keeping; pumps and piping systems; chiller plant optimization; and chiller math and log analysis.

In the Pneumatics class you will work hands-on with pneumatic equipment to learn the fundamentals of pneumatic controls. The course will cover limit controls, P.E. switches, solenoid valves, relays, thermostats, valve and damper operations.

In the VAV class you will set up ductwork and connect to actual VAV boxes and practice on the equipment, given hypothetical problems by the instructor. This class will cover air velocity formulas, CFMs, and static pressures.

As near as we can tell about half of the people who clicked into the Wattstopper Live Event today reported a good experience (good video,audio, and great content). The other half either could not get the feed to load or got dropped out during the broadcast and were not able to get back on.

To the people that had trouble or were not able to get the feed please except our sincere apologies. I recorded most of the webcast on another camera and will get the class posted soon.

It appears that the streaming data provider we are using is not reliable. I would be most appreciative if any of our viewers could recommend a good streaming data provider. Also, any feedback you can provide will be most appreciated. It is our goal to provide the very best training classes, like the Wattstopper class today, live via the internet.

Although we have had students travel from different parts of the United States to attend one of teh HVAC training classes at Stromquist & Company we never expected to have an international attendee. We were very excited this week to welcome our first international student!  Spencer MacDonald from Carrier Canada came all the way from British Columbia, Canada, to join our Chiller Workshop.  He learned about the class and registered for it right here on Control Trends, and we are thrilled to know that we are reaching people this far away from Atlanta.  Spencer told us that it is very difficult to find training in his area, so he was happy to find out about our classes and was more than willing to travel the great distance to attend. 

So was it worth the trip? “Yes, indeed.” Spencer told us.  He feels the class was very worthwhile and really learned a lot from Tim Chamblee, the instructor.  He also enjoyed spending a couple of days in Atlanta, sightseeing and enjoying our warmer climate! 

We were very pleased to find out that Spencer plans to join us again next April for our Pneumatics and VAV classes as well.  On his  return trip he wants to bring his wife to enjoy our fair city with him.  We look forward to welcoming him back and welcoming his wife to Atlanta!  If you would like to join Spencer in our Spring classes, click on the Training tab above.

On Tuesday, November 8, 11:30-1:30, Stomquist will be hosting a FREE WattStopper lunch and learn in our training room on Atlanta Road in Smyrna.  WattStopper’s lighting panel rep, Pete Baselici, will provide training on their lighting integration panels.  Pete will go over the AX jar file and hold a tech question and answer session as well. Stromquist will be providing lunch during the training.  While the session is free, we ask that you please register in advance. In Stacie’s last post she talked about the VAV (variable air volume class) that was just completed at Stromquist & Company. Our instructor Jerry Condiff delivered another great training class. The students in the class where so pleased with the training that we have talked Jerry into coming back again in April 2012.
As you can see in this video this is a class you want to be at in April 2012 so make sure to get funds in the budget or talk to Edna ( 800.241.9471) about our special payment packages and discounts for signing up early.

Jerry’s VAV class is wrapping up today, and as usual it has been a great success.  We had a very full class of 22 students, all getting their hands on actual VAV boxes hooked up to duct work in the class.  As you can see from the pictures, it’s quite a setup!  Students benefit greatly from this hands-on experience and really enjoy this part of the class.  It’s much easier to learn when you can actually do what you are being taught while being taught.
